John B. Gordon

Georgia native John Brown Gordon (1832-1904) was a distinguished Civil War Confederate general and a U.S. Senator. He joined the Confederate Army as a captain of an infantry company in 1861. He is thought to have been a leader of the Ku Klux Klan. Gordon was the first Commander-in-Chief of the United Confederate Veterans. The road around the Stone Mountain Inn and Historic Square is named in his honor.
